To Rebuke or Not to Rebuke? March 22, 2016

Hello,

Sorry no emails yesterday I hope you weren’t thinking I forgot ha. We moved our p day to today (Tues) and were supposed go to the temple until our ride canceled.

We were able to meet with quite a few people with spring break going on and everyone being home. We have also been running into a few anti-mormon people tracting. This one anti Mormon was all cool with us at the door and I asked him if we could come back and share more. He sneakily said sure…but only if your open to learn more also. Right
then I got this weird feeling and the dots connected in my head that he was anti.  He invited us into his house and said he had met with missionaries in the past and began bringing up all random anti-material he probably googled.  He then realized he left his porn on his computer on and awkwardly runs over to turn it off like he thinks we didn’t see. It
made me so mad inside.  I kept my cool though.  And so when he was trying to prove the Book of Mormon wrong, I just wanted to rebuke him and read:

Matthew 12:

34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things?
for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth
good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth
evil things.

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they
shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou
shalt be condemned.

But I didn’t rebuke him.. We just told him that God continues to speak and that I know by the power of the Holy Ghost it is true, and if you ask God the source of all truth you can come to know it also. We gently corrected him on a few things, bore our testimony and said we had to go to dinner. He said we could come by anytime but I’m pretty sure we’re not going back.  And we got outta there!

One of the family’s we have been working with is almost ready to be baptized the husband and wife answered all the baptismal questions with flying colors. He just needs to get a job that doesn’t have him working on Sunday’s. We had a really powerful lesson with them this
week and we are working with him to put his faith in God and overcome his fear of driving so that he can get a better job.

St. Patrick’s day was great we had a traditional Irish dinner at a non-members home. They are Catholic but love having us over. On the condition that we only share spiritual messages out of the Bible. The husband was Military Intelligence, so he keeps us entertained with spy stories from Vietnam war.

A prayer was answered!! This 60 year old women who has been attending the LDS church for 16 years, still does not believe in a lot of things. I don’t know how she answered the baptismal questions 3 years ago when she was baptized. But after a few months of working with her prayer was answered and now believes in Jesus. Before she only believed in God and the Old Testament. It was amazing seeing her doubts turn to faith.

This email is pretty long so I’ll just cut it off there. I’m really excited for this Easter week and to listen to general conference in a few.

Anyways love you all hope you have a great week!

Elder Egbert
